The Moomba Parade

I could not believe that I have not watched a Moomba Parade after being here in the past eight years, let alone all the other activities of this widely celebrated Festival in Melbourne! Well, it was simply because March is a mad time for festivities here and in the regional areas....So, I was either at a flower festival, a car show, etc.and I also because I often hear of people talking about the huge crowd...but, this year I promised myself I will make it, at least to the parade which was held last Monday, which was also a public holiday, Labour Day. Tried to wake up earlier after having attended a birthday dinner the previous night and managed to get to the city at least an hour before the show which started at eleven in the morning. Masses of spectators crowded the trains, trams and buses....I was getting excited as I joined the crowd walking towards the Shrine of Remembrance on St. Kilda Road where the parade was supposed to start. I had to wind my way from the back towards the front of the fence so I can get a better view...there was a kind lady who let me stand in front of her, and well, for once I felt lucky that I was shorter than her and not block her view....especially with a long zoom lens attached to my DSLR...

This year's Moomba Parade was themed 'Melbourne is Delicious', celebrating the international flavours that make a multi-cultural Melbourne a great place for dining. It lasted just a little over an hour and my, what fun!
